You Do Not Know 你尚且不得知道

As you do not know the way the spirit comes to the bones in the womb of a woman with child, so you do not know the work of God who makes everything.
— Ecclesiastes 11:5

Author: Pastor Ben So

We are coming to the end of the circuit breaker implemented by our government. The good news is the community spread numbers have reduced. In life, there are many unknowns and we will not know when the Covid19 pandemic will end.

Like the preacher in Ecclesiastes 11:5 said, as we do not know the way of the spirit that enters the child in the mother’s womb, so we do not know the work of God the Creator. There are many things that science cannot explain and only God knows. The Lord’s way is higher than our ways and His thoughts are way above ours (Isa 55:8-9). Often we try to comprehend reasons for things that had happened but we may not always get the answer.

Like why had God allowed His servant Dr Ravi Zacharias, the apologist, to be inflicted with sarcoma, a rare form of cancer? According to Christianity Today, Dr Zacharias preached in more than 70 countries and authored more than 30 books in his 48-year career, teaching Christians how to engage with skeptics, arguing that the Christian worldview has robust answers to humanity’s existential questions.

Why did God choose not to heal Dr Zacharias but to take him home on the 19th of May 2020 at the age of 74?  We do not have the answers to God’s decision but we need to trust that God is in charge and sovereign over it all. We need to be comfortable with the ‘do not know’ and know that it is fine because we put our confidence in a God who knows.

We can be assured that as we work on our faith in God, He will draw us closer to Himself and use us for His mighty works. Our time on earth is short. We do not know when our turn to meet Him will be, but we do know that we will have to account for our actions.  I trust that God is pleased with Dr Ravi Zacharias’ ministry on earth and may we also be faithful till the end of our race.

Let us put our worries at the foot of the cross and meditate on Matthew 11:28-30

28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
