King Solomon (reigned 971-931 BC) whose wisdom surpassed the wisdom of all the people of the east and all the wisdom of Egypt (1 Kings 4:29-34), is the author or collector of the book of Proverbs. The theme of the book is to develop discernment and instill “wisdom” in God’s people, a wisdom founded in the “fear of the Lord” and throws light on practical details of everyday situations and relationships.
Proverbs 27:19 (New KJV)
“As in water face reflects face, so a man’s heart reveals the man”
Looking at our own reflection on the surface of the water is an experience common to many. People will see our heart’s condition and our true nature by how we live our lives, just as water reflects a face. The image reflected back from the water is slightly imperfect and it is not as clear as the object it reflects.
The same can be said of one’s life. It is merely a reflection of the Spirit of God in which it was created. As we walk closer to God, the image comes into sharper focus and it more closely resembles the perfect image of God, Jesus Christ.
It is not easy but it is not complex. All we have to do is to let God finish the work He has begun in us. If we turn our lives over to Him, He will then make us over in His image, and He will fill in the details which are lacking. He wants nothing more than for our lives to merge with His, so that both object and reflection are one.
Galatians 2:20
“I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” Amen
