The God Who Changed Me 改变我的神

Author: Dea. Noel Yu Hanwei

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.
— 1 Corinthians 13:4-8

I grew up in a non-Christian home and did not have much exposure to Christianity. When I was in my twenties, my parents started attending church and got to know more about Christianity. I saw that Christianity has benefited them and saw positive changes in their lives. They encouraged me to attend church with them, but I was not too willing as that meant I will need to wake up early on Sunday mornings to attend Sunday services together.

At that time, I also had a Christian friend who always had a bible with him. I borrowed his bible from him and started reading right from page one of Genesis. After reading through a few chapters, I was greatly enlightened and learnt a lot from the bible. I realised I am a sinner and learned how to love others as well. It was a turning point in my life, and I started to attend Sunday services with my parents ever since.

Fast forward to today, I feel that I am blessed by God with a happy family and a good career. This was paved by God right from my humble beginnings and He has shown me the way to build up everything that I have today.

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.” –1 Corinthians 13:4-8

This is the kind of love that I have come to learn and practice. God has empowered me to love others just as how He has loved me.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” – Proverbs 3:5-6

I realized that I have to put my trust in God and He will straighten the rest for me. I experienced this truth as He showed me signs to step out in faith to do a career switch and He gave me His blessings as I obeyed. I thank God that even someone like me who didn’t believe in Him at first could receive so many blessings from Him.
